AI Privacy & Compliance

COPPA
Compliance

How Secondary AI is designed to protect children's online privacy and support COPPA compliance for schools and districts.

We designed Secondary AI so that protecting children's privacy isn't a configuration option — it's the default.

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of children under 13 years old. Rather than building a platform and adding compliance as an afterthought, we built Secondary AI around the principle that students — especially younger ones — should be able to engage with AI tools with minimal exposure of their personal information. No accounts, no tracking, no data sold. Ever.

"No accounts. No tracking. No data sold. That's not a setting — it's the architecture."

— Secondary AI's approach to children's privacy

How We Comply

Five ways we protect
children's privacy.

No Account Creation for Students

Students do not create accounts on Secondary AI — eliminating the collection of email addresses, passwords, or any registration data. Teachers share a simple link or code. Students enter a name or anonymous ID and begin. No sign-up, no profile, no persistent identity required.

Anonymous Mode

Teachers can enable Anonymous Mode on any chatbot so that students only provide a randomly assigned or self-chosen anonymous ID instead of their real name. This means Secondary AI can function with zero personally identifiable information from any student under 13.

No Marketing or Tracking of Children

We do not use personal information collected from students for any commercial purpose. We do not display targeted advertising to students, we do not use tracking cookies on student-facing pages, and we do not sell or rent children's personal information to any third party under any circumstances.

Parental Rights

Parents have the right to review their child's personal information collected by the service, request deletion of that information, and refuse further collection or use. These rights are exercised through the child's teacher or school. Teachers can also contact us directly at thesecondaryai@gmail.com to facilitate parental requests.

Data Retention & Deletion

We retain student chat data only as long as necessary to provide educational services. Teachers can delete individual student sessions or entire chatbots at any time from their dashboard. Upon request, we will delete all data associated with a student or class within 30 days. Data is never repurposed for AI training.

In Our Privacy Policy

COPPA compliance is documented in full in our Privacy Policy.

Our full Privacy Policy contains the complete, legally binding detail of how we handle children's data, including our data collection practices, parental rights procedures, retention schedules, and third-party disclosure rules.
